July 2020: Live Goes On

Despite the lockdowns, reduced guest numbers and social distancing for those lucky enough to attend people are still keen to press on and share their special day with family members we were very pleased to play a part in that recently when we streamed our first wedding!

Live streams can quickly grow in budget ideally in the corporate conference world our ideal setup would be multiple cameras + one operator per camera + a large studio gallery + technician + an audio person to keep things ticking over. Clearly, this is beyond the budget of the average couple so we devised another solution to keep things practical.

Using our Atomos Shogun 7 we are able to operate the mix the multiple camera feed, monitor audio and operate the camera all at the same time from one spot. Only needing to return to the live stream software for starting the stream, starting and ending slides and any intro videos the couple may want to share.

In short, this allows us to pass on these cost savings to our clients.

Where do we go from here? If you're looking for an answer I have no idea. Covid 19 has hit this industry like many others like a prime angry Mike Tyson (Or a unretired one given his latest video.)

In the AV world we are often the last people to be thought of ahead of an event but it was obvious In early March where this outbreak was heading work-wise.

I once heard an older cameraman remark the recession of 08 was financially a great time for him - all people wanted to do was get together and talk about how to weather the storm. Contrast to now and It seems painfully obvious why my phone has rung a handful of times since this began, no one wants to get together and talk about things.

There are alternative ways of doing things.

Live-streaming can now be done at a much smaller scale, in fact, a crew of two is often enough. Wondering how to put on the AGM meeting? Live streaming over a private link is probably the only way in the current climate.

Social distanced interviews we have all seen this on the news recently. Sat outdoors (Thank god it’s May!) microphone boomed overhead with not a radio mic in site!

Stock footage saves the day if you have prior images of your business from the good old days even better!

Here at SEmedia we are able to provide all of this whilst maintaining social distancing with PPE and hand sanitiser on standby for cleaning ahead of shoots.

Video production is not the most important thing in the world but we will get through this, if you need a sanitised pair of hands to help with your comms please do get in touch.

Until then stay safe.
